These make an attractive present when packed into large glass storage jar, and make a delicious dessert and drink!
Ingredients
350 g granulated sugar
6 firm oranges
1 small cinnamon stick
1 tsp cloves
150 ml 1/2 pint Cointreau
Method
1) dissolve the sugar in 450 ml 3/4 pint water, when dissolved bring to the boil for 1 minute, then add 450 ml 3/4 pint water
2) cut the cleaned oranges to 0.5 cm slices
3) add the orange slices to the syrup and simmer very gently on a very low heat for 15 minutes
4) remove from the heat and drain, remove the cinnamon and reserve the liquid
5) leave to cool
6) add the liqueur to the syrup
7) arrange the fruit in a large glass storage jar, adding few cloves, pour the liqueur syrup over the orange slices
8) cover at once with airtight tops.
